Essentials Culture and Tradition
Culture and Tradition
Markets, museums, fairs and festivals

The different cultural events have completely changed the way that we view our local culture and landscape. This means that for some years now, just as the programme of events has become more extensive so too has our experience of local food and wine traditions and culture.

  • Every spring, the Vívid wine festival tempts visitors with a wide range of activities in the epicentre of Catalan wine tourism, the Alt and Baix Empordà, through the DO Empordà Wine Route: exhibitions, tastings and pairings, tasting menus, popular walks, games and activities for all the family, monologues, wine evenings at Sant Pere de Rodes … A long and varied list of experiences, with literally something for everyone!

  • In summer you can enjoy evening concerts at Sons del Món, Portalblau Festival, experiences like “A Night under the Stars”, at La Vinyeta, with DO Empordà wines, and soak up the great atmosphere as you rub shoulders with the locals over a glass of wine at the Empordà Wine Show.

  • Every September, the Ventalló Oil Fair and the itinerant Grape Harvest Festival herald a new season in the Empordà.

  • In winter, you can savour authentic olive oil at the Espolla Olive and Oil Fair and treasures from the sea at the Garoinada sea urchin festival in Palafrugell.

  • And all year round, the Fishing Museum and Espai del Peix in Palamós let us in on the secrets of the fishing world: you can watch the boats coming into port and unloading their catches, then you can see the fish on display and finish up with a guided visit to the vibrant fish auction. And don’t miss a visit to the Cork Museum in Palafrugell, with its various exhibition areas offering insights into the history, production and trade of the Catalan cork sector.

We do everything we can to squeeze every last drop out of what our region and gastronomy have to offer us through cultural and traditional activities within the world of wine tourism. Would you care to join us?
