Wake up Among Vines
12 wine tourism options that you should know about

All the charm of an area of vineyards not only becomes apparent by tasting its wines, but also by contemplating it at the beginning and end of the day. Imagine waking up surrounded by vines on a winter’s morning, with a delicious hearty country breakfast laid out for you, and taking as much time as you like over it because, after all, the next wine tourism activity doesn’t start till the afternoon …

All this and a great deal more can be yours thanks to hotels and wineries that provide the luxury of sleeping among vines.

Overnight stays at different wineries, farmhouses, country guest houses, hotels and small hotels

The wines and cavas made by the Castell de Perelada winery in the heart of the Empordà are surrounded by various tourist attractions. Grup Peralada offers the chance to visit its Finca Malaveïna and Finca Garbet vineyards and to taste its wines, visit the winery facilities, stay at Hotel Peralada, discover the castle’s museums, relax in the thermal water circuit, with treatments based on the properties of wine in the Wine Spa at Hotel Peralada, have a breakfast of local produce at Finca Malaveïna, enjoy a tasting menu at the Michelin-starred Castell Peralada restaurant …

Not to mention the charming streets in the village, just made for wandering around and soaking up the great atmosphere that you always find in Peralada. 🙂

If you dream of waking up literally among vines and enjoying, either before or afterwards, a DO Empordà wine tasting, then this option is just made for you. In Alt Empordà the famous Celler Espelt offers the chance to stay overnight and experience the true Empordà, whether at its farmhouse or at its apartment, with a visit to the winery and a wine tasting. Another outstanding option is La Vinyeta, where you can stay overnight and have one of their popular picnics or breakfasts in the vineyards. Or the magnificent Masia Serra, in the heart of the Albera region’s unspoilt countryside, with its El Recer guest rooms, an intimate, idyllic setting for a romantic night, where the next day you can also tuck into a hearty breakfast, a paired lunch or go on a cultural wine tour and visits in the region.

Another well-known exclusive winery is Martín Faixó, based at Mas Perafita, which offers some of the area’s most privileged accommodation, in the heart of the Cap de Creus Natural Park. Oh, and if you end up sleeping there, don’t forget to order a hearty breakfast of local produce.

Another option is Mas Vivent, in the little village of Vilamaniscle, with its attractive rooms overlooking vines, olive and cork trees, where at times you can attend astronomy sessions and yoga classes or go horse riding …

Not far from these wineries, you’ll also find NM Suites hotel in Platja d’Aro, just a few kilometres from some of the Costa Brava’s most beautiful beaches and coves (which are wonderful places for a stroll, even in mid-winter, by the way). Close to Platja d’Aro, Hostal La Fosca, part of Brugarol Group, welcomes guests from its setting overlooking one of the most famous beaches in the area, with a menu of locally-sourced seasonal cuisine.

If you prefer to book a country guest house for you and your family or group of friends, we recommend Moments Rurals to spend a night amid vineyards in Capmany or in Espolla, the epicentre of wine tourism in Alt Empordà.

We have an endless list of ideas for you …
