Autumn Fairs
Dates not to be missed in the Garrotxa region and the Empordà

Tastings, markets and fairs, open days, concert evenings …

Among the many important fairs held in Girona, there are two leading food fairs that take place every autumn which are much more than just a chance to taste produce. The first, Olot Origins Fair, is a date not to be missed for local food lovers. It displays top quality seasonal produce from Catalonia’s best producers.

The fair is held at different venues: the Cookery School, where professional chefs give demonstrations and the audience can discover new, original recipes to show off with at home; the Tasting School, where exhibitors sign up to acquaint visitors with their products through tastings or pairings; and the Kids’ School, providing interesting cookery workshops with an educational slant, specially aimed at the youngest members of the family, of course.

From tastings to kids’ workshops.

At Olot Origins Fair you’ll find just about everything you could wish for! Sweet and savoury foods, oils, breads and cakes, organic veal, real chocolate, locally-grown olives and tomatoes …

The second fair not to be missed in autumn takes place in Ventalló. Saint Michael’s day on 29th September is celebrated in fine style with Ventalló’s festa major – a great way to welcome the new season.

This is the village’s big annual festivity so of course there will be popular dances, traditional sardana music, open-air concerts at night … But the most original and unique event of all is its famous Oil Fair which offers a great variety of different activities, ranging from oil samplings and tastings, including oils with DOP Empordà Oil certification, to wine tastings, guided visits and open days at the Oli de Ventalló company’s oil mill and cellar (also known for its Anna Sala Trull de Ventalló and Serraferranvirgin olive oils),cookery workshops, allioli garlic sauce competitions, tapas and wines laid on by local restaurants …
